A regular ol' visiting teaching poster child

Okay everyone. Grab your box of tissues. This is going to be inspirational.

First off, I must announce that I got a job!!! (I only use multiple exclamation points for the most exciting of events). But before I get to all of that, I must explain that I've never been a very good visiting teacher. I can count on two fingers how many times I went visiting teaching during college—and since then.

My one and only request in regards to visiting teaching is that I be given a partner who's a little more, I don't know, motivated? Fervent? Well-inclined? So far, that request has never really been granted. Last month, after a few attempts to get ahold of my partner (which is a big deal for me) I finally learned that she had recently had a baby, and well, didn't want to visit teach. At all. Ever. Or that's the impression I was given. Such news didn't really bolster my already deprived drive for getting the job done. However, to my credit, I did give a call to each of my girls, got through to no one, but left a friendly message. And by the time February ended, I hadn't heard back from anybody.

This month, I decided it would only be proper to give another half-hearted attempt. To my amazement, one of the girls returned my phone call. We met this week.  After a slightly lame "lesson" by me, we ended up chatting about some of the freelance projects that I have. Unexpectedly she asked for a copy of my resume, stating that her boss might be interested in it. The company is a scrapbook/craft supplier (I should have known I'd eventually be sucked into the scrapbooking phenomenon that takes place in Utah) called Oh My Crafts, and apparently, they've been wanting to expand their name and put some of their ideas into concrete work. I met with the president yesterday, who seemed excited about my experience in publishing, and after a short deliberation process that took place while I sat across from him, he hired me.

The job description is very vague. In fact, I don't think even he knows what I'll be doing, yet. I know he wants me to do some writing.  But other than that, the duties I perform will be created by—me, basically.

This means that I have a lot of homework to do. I don't know the first thing about the scrapbook world. The last time I scrapbooked, the big deal in the industry were those fancy edged scissors that cut cutesy borders around the paper.  You know—the ones that went dull after their third use. Now there's all these fancy machines and devices that I'd probably need a loan to purchase, and had never even heard of until yesterday.

Anyway, the moral of the story is that this all came as a result of my effort to visit teach, and I'd be stupid to not recognize it as such. I guess I'll be converted now. Seems like my story might even be Ensign-worthy. Oh—and p.s. My relief society president is working on finding me a new partner soon. Let's just hope she's a winner.

YAY! Congratulations with the new job. Scrapbooking should be a fun industry to work in. You'll have to share what you end up doing in your position.

And yay for a great experience with visiting teaching. Visiting teaching is so hard sometimes. Some months it just seems impossible to so many different people's schedule. I know the Lord wants me to do it though, because even though I'm the first councilor in the YW presidency and have quite a bit to do with that calling, he still has me called to be a VT supervisor...The Lord works in mysterious ways to help us build testimonies I guess.

Woo hoo! You'll be so good at, uh, whatever they decide they need you to do. And a job where you get to use your creative genius? Well that's just perfect.

They won't know what hit `em.

Congrats, congrats, congrats!!!! Did you ask them if the job carries a mental health benefit for the therapy you may need should you chance to actually "fall in" with bona fide scrapbookers????? Your soul may be at stake! Ha ha. Knock 'em dead!

Congrats! I love to scrapbook and therefore am slightly jealous! Good luck with the new job!
P.S. I have been in my ward for over two years and have never been visiting teaching. You are a better "sister" than I am!

This great story is coming just in time for the visiting teaching conference and you can bet that I will be telling it BIG TIME as an inspirational motivator to get out and do that monthly visit.....not just a coincidence.
Congratulations! Your patience has paid off. In no time you will be an expert on Crickets and Cuddlebugs. Way to go!

I'm glad I could be of service - sorry I didn't return your call sooner!:) We'll have to talk! Oh, and you'll learn about the industry, I've been working for over a year and only have a general knowledge. You'll be great!

Awesome!! Congrats. It took me awhile to actually enjoy visiting teaching. Once I finally decided to give it a real try I ended up moving in with the girl I visit taught. I had been desperately searching because the situation I was living in wasn't good at all. Ever since then I have always been a big fan of visiting teaching. It's amazing what visiting teaching can do. Congratulations on the new job! We are very excited for you. I can't wait to hear all about it on our camping trip!
