In what turns out to be a life-altering post

Our home has recently taken a big hit.

My motivation for housework has decreased exponentially (I'm not a math person...is that possible?). I feel like I've turned into one of those terribly messy room mates that I used to complain to my mom about so often (but don't worry—I'm not referring to YOU.)

Basically, there's no time for house upkeep because I'm too busy shuffling back and forth from the couch to the bed and back again to take naps (with an occasional stop in the kitchen to rummage for something tasty.)

Fortunately, my hair has grown out enough so that I can pull it up almost every day.

I consider it a very successful day when I've showered and blow-dried my hair. However, most days I either a: pull up my hair in a greasy mop-of-an-excuse for a ponytail; b: put a hat on; or, c: both.

In other words, I've completely let myself go.

Oh. That, and I'm pregnant.
But really, is that any excuse?

No, really, I am. We even heard a beating heart today. And here's the picture from the ultra sound. Because what kind of blogger would I be without proudly posting that?

Okay, okay. So the real ultrasound picture is of "junior" (Tom hates when I use that term) at 6 weeks, and it's really quite difficult to discern the "speck" that we like to call a baby, and plus, I like my rendition of it better. So there.

Oh yeah.

Our little bundle of morning sickness (and by that I most certainly mean joy) will grace our presence on or around April 18.

ANSWERS TO PROBABLY COMMON QUESTIONS
• Yes, we're extremely excited (with an occasional hyperventilating freak-out session on my part.)
• No, I have no guess or preference to what baby's gender is going to be. As long as it comes out human I'll be satisfied.
• I've developed a stellar gag reflex to most everything (I say that as if it's something to brag about...)
• I have been eating a fair share of pickles, baked potatoes, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches (but not at the same time).
• I am entirely sick of toast and crackers. Entirely.

That's all I really wanted to say.
Neat, huh?

Hooray -- word is out. Glad to hear all is well...and by that, I mean, lots of fatigue, vomiting, lack of motivation...all around good things when you are expecting a new little addition. (I'm telling, playing "baby" is the way to go. Just wait till you expecting a sibling for this little one...B, K and I used to play A LOT of baby last year when I was pregnant. I would just lie on the floor and they would cover me with blankets. It's a great game that can last for hours!)
Congrats again!!!

That's Way Over the Top great news! Your life will settle down, you'll begin eating like the rest of the species, and you'll feel better--just in time for a baby to REALLY turn things upside down...in a good way!

Congratulations! That is SO great! Rob and I were going through our relatives that have gotten married in the last year (there are a weirdly huge amount of them) and we decided you should be first to take the baby plunge. Way to read our minds!

Congrats! It is exciting but also scary to have taken the plunge - especially when you feel like crap all day long every day. What doctor? I went to Dr. Judd and he was AWESOME, just a thought if you end up not liking the one you have and want to switch. Congrats again!

Yay! What exciting news! I am sorry that you are sick and tired of being sick and tired! I lived off of saltines and sprite for the first three months!

I'm assuming that Tom is wearing the baby's jacket in his picture? Congratulations! If you have a baby girl with tons of dark curly hair (like dad) I think you should name her Gilly. Yeah. sssSorry.

So you know there is a medically proven condition called Maternal Amnesia. It causes actual memory loss. They say it "helps" us forget what the pregnancy, labor and delivery are really like so that we can continue multiplying and replenishing the earth. However, I have a hard time forgetting the 20 WEEKS of throwing up and shuffling back and forth from the couch to the bed. Somehow, the little earthling that comes out IS actually worth it, in the end. Congrats.

I have to leave my congrats as well! Everyone is so excited for you that we've all forgotten that you even said your housework has gone down the drain. I hope you get feeling better, and good luck! I think you guys will be the funnest parents ever.

We are so excited for you guys. Tom's comment was the best! He and Tag are just so much alike. Congratulations! Ponytails are a great thing, especially when you're tired and not feeling well.

WOW!!!!! Congrats! I'm so excited for you guys! Feeling sick is the worst, though, I'm sorry! But Shelly is right, the end product is worth it! I'm so happy for you, keep us all posted on how things are going for you and baby!

Congrats!! Good luck with everything. Sorry the sickness isn't too fun though... what these little guys put us mom's through already! We are happy for you!

Great news! Hopefully this stage will pass for you. It is no fun. And I am totally with you on the PB&J. I ate a lot of those in my first trimester, then transitioned to grilled cheese, then deli sandwiches. Sandwiches and cheerios were pretty much all I could stomach.
You and Tom will be the coolest, funniest parents ever!

Since no once has answered your question yet, I will. Yes, motivation can decrease exponentially, but it really depends on how high it was in the first place. It will start slowing down as it gets to zero though, because in this case, it cannot go into the negative. If your motivation was low to begin with, the probability of it catapulting into exponential decline is low. Hope this helps. Oh, and congrats on the stick figure that is growing in your womb. Very exciting.
