Just a fine and fancy ramble to the zoo

We made our way to Hogle Zoo on the day of yester, and brought along some friends with us.

Meet: Nate, Nicole, baby Will, and Rachel, Nate, and baby Clayton.

Both those guys' names are Nate and both those baby's middle names are Nathan. That's a lot of Nates to keep track of, but by golly we did our best. (Should we talk about that first sentence? Is it even grammatically correct? Beats me—but I don't want to hear about it, English majors.)

If you want to know the truth, conditions couldn't've been lovelier (that's right—a double contraction). The weather was ship-shape, the animals were quite cordial and performed well. (Tap dances, pantomimes, card tricks, stand-up jokes—all the stuff you'd expect to see on a good day at the zoo.)

This guy can do a near-perfect impersonation of Sean Connery.

And THIS guy can almost wrap his whole tongue around that tree.

And THIS guy can sing almost any They Might Be Giants song you throw at him.

The only real downside was the beastly tooth that decided to charge its way through Clara's gums, which made her eyes weepy, her nose runny, and her mouth drooly. Triple whammy.

Liquid from every orifice! Because "orifice" always deserves an exclamation point at the end!

But our little miss wasn't about to let that keep her from having a riot at the zoo. No way. And when I say riot, I'm talking animal-gazing, train-taking, carousel-riding mania. It's like they say—it really is all happening at the zoo. (Name that tune, you music enthusiasts...)

Tom Thomas is having the time of his life—and it shows.

And with that I say—more pictures! (Wherein the "caption" function on Blogger goes completely nuts, so I call it quits.)

Porcupines! Laying lifeless!

Water!

A trio of dads—doin' the Dad thing.

A trio of moms—doin' the Mom thing.

"Look guys! That monkey's snappin' his fingers like he's straight outta West Side Story!"

A day at the zoo with you guys sounds very exciting. I love it when you post lots of pictures. I love Tom's expression on the merry go round - almost like it's his very first ride. Ever. Clara looks like she had a blast.

Still making fun of those West Side Story gang dancers, huh? I know you and Linc secretly admired them!

I love it when moms and dads to the mom and dad thing. Also, I love when animals do good impersonations. Who wants to hear a hippo do a so-so Hugh Jackman Australian accent? No me. If they're at the zoo--they better be professional.
