So, 2012 brings dumpster diving.

Well hey! Howdy! Hey there guys! How in heaven's name have you been? I mean, it's just so good to drop in and say hello!

How's 2012 treating everyone? We've been keeping things pretty low-key around here, as is our normal January fashion. So far 2012 has brought along coughs and colds, the flu for me, a super messy house, a new semester for Tom, an adoracute new vocabulary for Clara (she says "pocket," and I swear—if it's not the cutest little sounding word you'll ever hear...), and a dose of low motivation for me. Oh, and a new TV. That January. Such a ham.

Last night we planned to order take-out from Chiles because we had a gift card. I mean, right? Gift cards? Love those. See, I'd gotten this cheesy little idea to have a date night right in our own home. A cheesy little idea compliments of Pinterest, where else? I thought it would suit us nicely since, a: we don't really go on dates very often, and b: I have super-intense babysitter anxiety—which is a post all in itself, really. Anyway, I was going to magically transform our living room into a restaurant while Tom went to pick up the food. But when I went to collect the gift card, it was gone—along with three other gift cards that we had been given at Christmas time. See, I'd strategically placed them in an unorganized fashion on our counter, above where our trash can resides. You know, so I wouldn't lose them? I'm a real thinker, when it comes right down to it. After a thorough search through our entire kitchen and all the other logical places that I keep things, it was determined that they had either accidentally been knocked off into the trash—or, a certain toddler, who shall not be named, threw them away.

See, this certain little toddler has a real fascination with the trash can—namely, throwing things away that she's not supposed to. We've caught her on several occasions tossing items in the "shrash," even though it isn't really "shrash." It's a real Giles conundrum. So we searched our trash bag, but found nothing. By this point I was feeling ever so glum, because our date night, in my mind, was ruined. Not to mention we were missing $75 worth of gift cards.

While I was putting Clara to bed, Tom disappeared too. Good grief—sometimes it's like the twilight zone around here. I called him to find out where he had gone. He answered from inside the dumpster outside our apartment. As a stroke of good fortune, he had located another one of our bags of trash from a few days previous—and was coming back to search through it.

Want to guess what we found? Actually, some really nasty, smelly stuff. Seriously gross. Plus, four gift cards! And another item of "shrash" that wasn't supposed to be in there. Hody ho! Then we did a little dumpster diving dance.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that our cheesy little date night at home started off with the most romantic dumpster dive anyone could ever think up. I feel so good knowing that my husband will dumpster dive—for me. Because he knew how sad I was. I swoon, I swoon!

We're like straight outta Portlandia. Portlandia? Does anyone else watch that show? Oh man. Talk about kooky. One thing is for sure—it's made me quite sure that I never want to move to Portland. Watch this video. It's totally like me and Tom. Plus, it's really funny.

Anyway, in other news, I've been slowly (emphasis on the slowly) formulating a post that's 100% dedicated to a certain hilarious toddler, who recently discovered that her parents also answer to the titles of "Tom," and "Seaz." All day long its, "Tom!!" Or "Seaz!!" So demanding. Here's a little picture to whet ye olde whistler.

Lucy is looking at the picture of Clara and saying, "Mine". Apparently, Clara belongs to Lucy.

We are definitely going dumpster diving the next time we get together. They found some real gems.
