Facebook intervention

To illustrate the point that I am soon going to attempt, I feel the need for an example. And although I wrote it all by myself and didn't base it exactly off of anything I've read (at least not word-for-word), I feel like this one really hits it on the mark:

7:00 a.m.
Headed out for my daily run. I hope to beat yesterday's time. Let's hope I can make those 35 miles in one hour!!! Oh, but first I have to lace up my runnin' shoes. And then put my hair up in a ponytail.

7:15 a.m. (mobile)
on my run!!! So far so good!

8:05 a.m. (mobile)
still on my run! Headed back soon so I can have a nutritious breakfast before starting my day!

8:20 a.m.
Had a great run. Now I think I'll go to the kitchen and put two whole-wheat pieces of bread in the toaster for breakfast. YUM!!

9:00 a.m.
Still feeling great after that run! Headed to the library with every single one of my textbooks to study before tomorrow's big health, biology and psychology test!

9:02 a.m.
Hmmmmmmmm. What to wear??????

9:35 a.m. (mobile)
At the library! Boy this place is BIZ-ZY. Now if I could only find somewhere to sit........

10:05 a.m.
studying my brains out!!!!!!

11:05 a.m.
still studying!! Will it EVER end????

11:45 a.m.
Taking a short break from studying to figure out my grocery list. I know I need apples, bananas, oranges, and chocolate chip cookies. But I can't think of what else I need. ggrrrrr. I know I'm forgetting something. I guess I'll get back to studying and hope that I remember eventually.

1:30 p.m.
Just got out of class!!!! Headed to the gym!

2:00 p.m. (mobile)
At the gym! I'm gonna feel this tomorrow!

2:10 p.m. (mobile)
I remembered what I need!!!!! Lettuce. Can't forget the lettuce.

...Well and anyway, you get the point. Is there really nothing better to do than that? Don't people realize that if the goal is to be "heard," posting more than 1,000 posts a day is not the way to do it? I'm afraid that I've been using my "hide" privileges all too rampant these days. Of course there are some really great things about Facebook. I've re-connected with friends all the way back to elementary school that I'm sure I would have never heard from again had it not been for the good FB. It's a great way to share information and pictures and keep connected with long-distance friends and family. But as a whole, I'm becoming quite bored of it.

I'll admit—I'm on Facebook a lot more than I'd really care to share. My work has an Oh My Crafts fan page and often throughout my day I will get on it to monitor what's being said, to post links to our blog and Youtube channel, or to do other odds and ends. And then generally I'll go to the home page and browse through the news feed—although I don't know why. There's something about the home page that always seems to suck me in—as if I'll be missing something if I don't read it—yet always leaves me feeling disappointed. I usually just end up hiding the newest batch of quizzes.

I am right there with you! I spend plenty of time on facebook, but if you are going to post more than 4 times a day you need to just get a twitter account and join the people who care to have a play-by-play of your life!

That was so funny! I'm hardly ever on facebook, but the times that I do get on to check, I get sucked in and end up spending more time than I care to admit reading everyone's posts. It has been great finding old friends, I just hate the pressure of feeling like I need to post some sort of thought or activity I'm engaged in. We had a crazy weekend that just got a way from us. I want to call you today so you can get started with my logo. I'm so excited!!!!

Too funny. I've often wondered how people have the time to post update after update.

As for why I am making my blog private -- nothing happened to push me over the edge. It's just that I blast nonstop pics of my kids and details of our lives... and given how some of our tenants feel about us - and Greg's line of work -- it's mostly a safety issue. An annoying one that I wish I didn't have to think about.

I usually FB on my iPhone when I'm bored! I know what you mean though! It has been fun to connect with distant friends and family. And I find the quizzes so annoying!

So I was finally going to take Facebook lessons from somebody, and now you're telling me it's boring. Hmmmm...may have saved myself some steps and time.

For a second I was like, "What she gets up and runs for an hour everyday???" No, really. Then the whole library thing with the studying and then BACK to the gym thing, that's what really solidified it. Phew! this really wasn't you. Totally true about that FB thing, though.
