A landmark month for the Giles family

Here we have a rarely captured image of Season and Tom Thomas as BYU-Idahodians. Boy, back then we'd barely grown out of our baby teeth. It occurred to me this week that Tom Thomas and I met four years ago in May.

That event was indeed a historical one. He introduced himself as such: "I'm—[slight hesitation] Tom. [Pause, then as if to correct himself] Thomas." As a result, those of us present that night have loyally referred to him as "Tom Thomas" ever since. And, as a result—before we got married I really did have to explain to many individuals that, no, my last name was not going to be Thomas.

If I'd had any inkling of how our story would turn out—I wouldn't have been nearly so against the idea of dating back then. If only I'd paid attention to all the foreshadowing.

For instance. Those who know me well know that I have quite an interest in words. Those who know Tom Thomas well also know that he too has a fascination with language—even more than me. One summer evening we sat outside my apartment and Tom took on the task of guessing my two favorite words. (I know, we're totally weird—but what can ya' do?) I remember being absolutely shocked when it didn't even take him two minutes to nail both of them (which I can assure you, are not your average, run-of-the-mill words.) That really should have been my biggest clue.

On to the words. Naturally I can't just tell you what they are. Who wants to try and beat Tom's time?

Oh man, that's a tough one. I think I remember two words you hate (or used to hate): club and dew. Does that count?

Funny - I don't think I have favorite words -- just words that I absolutely refuse to say...and they aren't swear words.
